This series of photographs of ubiquitous housing complexes, intervened with Mariana de Alba’s phantasmagorical collages, seeks to capture the notion of Unheimlichkeit (a German term that translates into Spanish as something both terrifying and familiar at the same time) in the prefabricated concrete buildings that proliferated across Eastern Europe during the second half of the last century — the famous Plattenbau.
